A supersonic mercury vapor jet with surface densities up to 16 μg/cm2 has been satisfactorily attained.nFrom simple tests of passing a 40 kv been of protons through the jet stream the charged portion was observed to be reduced substantially more than expected. Charge to neutral been ratios of 6 per cent were observed against expected amounts of 9 or 10 times as great.
