DETECTION OF NITRITE ION IN PLUTONIUM NITRATE SOLUTIONS

Colorimetric and potentiometric methods were developed for the very rapid detection of nitrite ion in the 2AP Purex process stream.nBoth methods were designed to detect the presence of excess nitrite in the valence adjustment step. The presence of nitrite was detected at a concentration as low as 2 x 10-4 molar.
