URANIUM ISOTOPE MEASUREMENTS WITH A MODEL SU-1 SURFACE IONIZATION MASS SPECTROMETER

The performance of a twelve-inch radius, 60° sector, single-focusing surface ionization mass spectrometer, Model SU-1 built by Nuclide Analysis Associates, is described. Analyses were made on uranium samples which varied in uranium-235 content from 0.23 per cent to 99-8 per cent. Both single and triple filament sample arrangements were used, with and without a vacuum lock for introduction of the sample. All performance requirements in the purchase contract were equalled or exceeded.
