The Effects of Sampling and Sample Pretreatment on the Determination of Carbon in Uranium Metal

It has been shown that the results obtained on uranium metal from the determination of the carbon content are dependent on the thickness of the sample, the method of cutting and after-treatment and on the level of carbon in the material. These effects are found to be interrelated. The extent of this interrelationship depends on the laboratory in which the analysis is conducted probably because the cleaning process depends on the judgment of the operator.
