When President Ford signed the Energy Reorganization Act of 1974 on October 11, the AEC's stewardship of the Nation's nuclear energy program began drawing to an end. Within 120 days, by statute, the functions of the AEC would be assumed by the Energy Research and Development Administration and by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
