Edited Transcripts of a Series of Four University - Community Seminars on: The Rural Experience: Implications for Building Effective Youth Care Services in Rural Areas

Transcripts from a series of four community - university seminars on the implications of the rural experience for establishing effective rural youth care services are presented. The seminars were part of a short term training and curriculum development project conducted under the auspice of the Center for Youth Development and Research at the University of Minnesota. Seminar topics were rural communities and rural youth (background information), rural youth and rural adults (needs and concerns), special considerations related to the rural poor and minority groups, assessing and delivering services to rural youth, and education and training for rural service providers. Particular attention was given to sociological dimensions of the rural community and its changing nature, the needs of rural youth and especially poor rural youth, local efforts in planning human services for rural areas in Minnesota, inservice education, the 4 - H model for training volunteers, and the dissemination of information and innovation to rural practitioners. An annotated bibliography and a list of seminar staff are included.
