摘要

Experiments were conducted from 1972 to 1975 at several Hanford Reservation study sites to determine whether radioactive particles from these sites were resuspended and transported by wind and to determine, if possible, any interrelationships between wind speed, direction, airborne soil, and levels of radioactivity on airborne particles.nStudy results indicated that:n1) Airborne concentrations increased with wind speeds to the 1.0 to 1.5 power for the data shown.n2) Maximum measured airborne concentrations for all radionuclides were substantially less than the maximum permissible airborne concentrations (MPC40 hr) for uncontrolled areas, but were greater than fallout levels.n3) The weathering half-life, or time required for airborne con¬centrations to decrease by one-half, is much greater than previously reported in the literature:5 months or longer rather than 30 to 45 days.
