Six Year Report on the Continuing Education Program in the Mechanical Engineering Department.

In 1968,the Department of Engineering at LLL inaugurated a series of in-house courses designed to duplicate much of the pre-baccalaureate education of the engineer. Individuals taking these courses could,in an accelerated fashion,gain a new exposure to those skills which may have become eroded through misuse or through lack of self-confidence. These courses were designed to present basic undergraduate engineering curricula to engineers whose original professional degree had been granted at least ten years previously. As experience increased and the original population of mid-career engineers began to move through these refresher courses,other,more advanced,engineering classes were added. Since the original purpose of the coursework was to assist the engineer in regaining his technical competence,it became apparent that the direction of the program should depend to a large degree upon some objective evaluation of the program. Accordingly,questionnaires were distributed to all professionals in the department concerning the value of the program. Results of the survey are presented. (ERA citation 02:052663)
