Interpretation of Pulsed Eddy Current (PEC) Inspection

A brief description of the method of interpreting pulsed eddy current (PEC) inspection results obtained from postirradiated nuclear fuel pins is discussed. Interpretation of pulsed eddy current inspection results is based on a combination of scientific facts and intuition gained by experience. The available facts are the general knowledge of eddy current theory and application and familiarity with specific inspection systems. The intuition is acquired by relating known flaws to specific signal responses for a given inspection system that is set at a given set of parameters. The known flaws are in the form of a standard.
