摘要

The primary objective of the conceptual study was to define a RICGATRON type tokamak (i.e., high field compact tokamak) generically called herewith PHIBEX (Physics Ignition and Burn Experiment), which would demonstrate the feasibility of plasma ignition through ohmic heating, and would provide the necessary physics output so as to assess, with a high degree of confidence, the viability of a commercial thermonuclear fusion reactor based on the RICGATRON tokamak. This is detailed in Section 2.C.nA preliminary point design configuration has been developed, based on conceptual considerations. The PHIBEX design specifications are outlined in Section 2.A. The principal parameters are, major radius 57 cm;minor radius 22 cm;toroidal field 15.75T;plasma current of 3.3MA;copper coils, water-cooled tokamak;no auxiliary heating is incorporated in the design as this feature is not deemed necessary.
