Progress is reported in the following areas in defining the varied roles of diadenosine 5', 5'''-P exp 1 , P exp 4 -tetraphosphate (Ap sub 4 A) in metabolic events within the living cell: (1) Ap sub 4 A association with a subunit of DNA polymerase alpha ; (2) studies on the unusual ordered structure of Ap sub 4 A and of related bisnucleoside oligophosphates; (3) the utilization of technetium labeled Ap sub 4 A as a radionuclide diagnostic reagent; and (4) the role of Ap sub 4 A in the blood clotting mechanism.
