Administration on Aging: Accomplishments, Current Efforts, and Future Directions

Provided in this statement is an overview of the policy and program directions that the Commissioner on Aging has established for Fiscal Years 1982 - 1985 and of the actions that are completed, underway, or can be taken to achieve them. The Statement consists of four major sections: The Changing Older Population, which highlights the composition, the socio-economic characteristics, and the predicted size of the aging population in two to three decades; The Statement of Administration Policies; Mission and Goals of Administration on Aging, which addresses the role of the Administration on Aging as a Federal focal point on issues affecting older persons and discusses its activities in promoting the development of comprehensive and coordinated community-based service systems for older persons in need; and Major Program Objectives and Strategies, which details the objectives and actions the Administration on Aging considers feasible and worthwhile for achieving its stated goals. The discussion of each objective amplifies its meaning and purpose and outlines the steps to attain it.
