Surface second harmonic generation (SHG) is used to monitor adsorption and desorption of molecules on metal and semiconductor surfaces in ultrahigh vacuum. Surface SHG has also been used to study monolayers of molecules at a liquid/air interface. 13 refs., 6 figs. (ERA citation 11:028696)
