The authors are reporting preliminary results from a study on low-pressure vent valves that the authors are conducting for the US Coast Guard. Test results from four valves will be discussed here. The valve currently used in the Coast Guard totally-encapsulating chemical-protective (TECP) suit is made by Stratotech Corporation. A second suit valve that was evaluated is made in Sweden by Trelleborg. Then, to provide a comparison for the evaluation, the authors included two valves that are used in respirators. These valves, made by MSA Corporation, included a standard flapper valve and a pressure demand valve. 4 refs., 6 figs. (ERA citation 12:023204)
