摘要

This report describes the conceptual design of a solar thermal central receiver system that both produces activated carbon from coal and regenerates spent activated carbon. The system design uses molten carbonate salt that is heated in the receiver to transfer heat to an activated carbon plant located near the base of the receiver tower. Capital and operating cost estimates are described, and market and economic analyses are presented to assess the attractiveness of the proposed system. Technical uncertainties are identified as the basis for a development plan to bring the proposed system to maturity. (ERA citation 12:030348)
