Making Fuels from Wastes and Crops. Biofuels Technology in Britain

The production and use of biofuels is one of the most promising ways of exploiting renewable energy sources in the United Kingdom. A detailed assessment of the various biofuels technologies recently carried out for the Department of Energy suggests that, at current energy prices, biofuels could make a potential economic contribution to United Kingdom energy supplies of over four million tons of coal equivalent a year (Mtce/yr). And given modest increases in energy prices, the size of the contribution could rise to fifteen Mtce/yr by the year 2025. (ERA citation 14:004273)
