Second Harmonic Generation from Cyclodextrin Inclusion Complexes

Cyclodextrin inclusion complexes were formed from p-nitroanilines and anilineanalogs as well as from selected bimanes. Only in very few instances did complexation with cyclodextrins increase the second harmonic generation when compared to the parent compound (aniline/analog or bimane). Solid state UV reflectance spectroscopy was found to be a viable method for differentiating between solid cyclodextrin-guest inclusion complexes and cyclodextrin-guest physical admixtures. Isobestic points could be determined by solution UV absorption spectroscopy for a number of p-nitroaniline/analog aqueous solutions containing cyclodextrins. The TLC characteristics of p-nitroanilines and their analogs were greatly affected by the presence of cyclodextrins in the mobile phase. Stability constants were calculated from the TLC data. jg p.1.
