摘要

This paper examines the current policy of deploying military units along theSouthwest Border as part of the overall DOD counterdrug strategy. The paper looks at the impact of drug abuse in America, describes the National and Military counterdrug strategies, details the history of U.S. militarization of the Southwest Border and its relationship to current tactical operations, and examines the legal constraints of Posse Comitatus. Finally, an analysis of the effectiveness of the policy of employing military ground forces along the Southwest Border as part of the overall DOD counterdrug strategy is accomplished using the criteria of acceptability, feasibility, and adequacy.
