Shipboard Systems Studies; an Evaluation of Two Proposed Plotting Systems for the Cic of the U.S.S. Northampton (Clc-1)

This report was prepared at the request of the Bureau of Ships and under contract with Special Devices Center. It is concerned with the installation and effective utilization of the 120 inch square vertical plotting board in the CIC of the USS Northampton (CLC-1). The objectives of the study were to determine optimal placement of the platforms and men, to determine the plotting loads at which plotters could work effectively and to suggest how basic telephone equipment and talker/plotter techniques could be optimally used to display the necessary information on the board. The latter objectives were to be accomplished by ascertaining experimentally the more effective of two proposed methods of radar reporting and plotting.
