Finite Element Analysis for Liquid Sloshing Problems

摘要

The purpose of this report is to determine the natural frequencies of an incompressible, inviscid fluid in a rigid or a flexible axisymmetric shell container by a finite element method. In the analysis the liquid portion is subdivided into the concentric triangular annular elements. The free surface and the container are assumed to be made of a series of meridionally curved frusta connected at nodal points. The interpolation functions for the velocity potential of the fluid and the displacements of the free surface and the shells have been assumed. The liquid sloshing motions in a conical, a hemispherical and a circular cylindrical container have been studied in detail. The sloshing frequencies and its mode shapes have been presented. The figures clearly demonstrate the convergence of the numerical results to the exact solution as the sizes of the elements decrease. It also reveals that the flexibility of the container always lowers the sloshing frequencies. (Author)
