According to the patent application the deleterious effects of backscattering on a video image received from a turbid environment is minimized by using a vertical raster scan combined with appropriate filtering between the camera and monitor. The arrangement is particularly adapted for underwater remote vehicles wherein the illumination source is horizontally disposed with respect to the detector.
