Renal Tubular Acidosis in Wilson's Disease: Characteristics, Mechanisms and Implications.

To determine the incidence of renal tubular acidosis (RTA) acid loading, tests with NH4Cl were performed upon 27 patients with Wilson's disease (WD). To better understand the mechanism of RTA in WD, bicarbonate reabsorption was studied in 10 of these subjects. Another patient with severe hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis, who did not have either test, is also included.
