摘要

This reprint describes highlights during the early period (1969-1974) when most of the superlattice studies, including the structure synthesis by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), were being carried out. This work is believes to have provided the foundation for stimulating explorations on quantum wells and other heterostructures. Early efforts focused on transport properties in the direction of the one-dimensional periodic potential. Later, the emphasis was on optical studies such as absorption, luminescence, lasers, magnetoabsorption, and inelastic light scattering, and magnetoquantum transport of the two-dimensional electron gas system in the layer plane prevailed. Such expanded activities resulted in new discoveries and inventions. leading to further proliferation of heterostructures in general.
