摘要

An in vitro system was designed to evaluate properties of gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) sampling. The results of this indicate that fluid sampling in an in vitro model system is affected by available volume and orientation. It is reasonable that the efforts of these physical properties seen in vitro would exert some influence on the amount of fluid recovered in the more complicated in vivo situation. While these findings should be generalized cautiously to a clinical setting, statistical control of these factors may be necessary. Concurrent with actual GCF measurement, data pertaining to pocket depth and tooth arch (orientation) could be collected to determine the extent of these effects in vivo and treated as a covariate in statistical analysis if required.
