Different Look at Computers in Engineering Education

This article traces the efforts of the Department of Civil Engineering at the United States Air Force Academy to improve its use of computers as educational tools. The efforts were motivated by changes to criteria of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology and by the desire to produce better engineers. The results include in-class use of microcomputers for demonstration of parameter sensitivities as well as more conventional use for large project course work. The article presents both applications and philosophies of computer use. (Author)
