摘要

The primary thrust of the neuroscience research program at the Navy Personnel Research and Development Center (NPRDC) is to develop a technology for measuring evoked brain activity (event-related brain potentials, ERPS) that correlates with the performance of military personnel and may improve the prediction of that performance. NPRDC has been investigating neuroelectric and neuromagnetic recordings to assess individual differences in brain processing and their relationship to on-job performance. In this chapter, a brief discussion of individual difference measurement and its history will be made, and to present evidence for the relationship between neuroelectric recordings and aptitude. The relationships between ERP and on-job performance assessment that have been found over the last dozen or so years will be emphasized. A brief discussion of new techniques that we and others are examining and developing to improve the sensitivity of brain function measures, using the neuromagnetic evoked field will conclude this chapter.
