Determination of the ferromagnetic domain size in UGe2 by three-dimensional neutron depolarization

Three-dimensional neutron depolarization measurements have been carried out on single-crystalline UGe2 at ambient pressure between 4 and 80K in order to determine the average ferromagnetic domain size d. It is found that below T-C similar or equal to 52 K uniaxial ferromagnetic domains are formed with an estimated magnetic domain size of d approximate to 5 mu m. The domain wall thickness 6 is estimated to be only a few percent of the domain size. These results clearly indicate the microscopic nature of the ferromagnetic domains. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V.
