PLANNING AND SCHEDULING:HOW WELL ARE YOU DOING?

Most mills have implemented maintenance planning and scheduling to some degree,but the effect on productivity and reliability varies depending on how well it is implemented.Improved planning and scheduling procedures lead to higher production and lower manufacturing and maintenance costs.A study of 19 similar paper machines operated by the same company showed a direct relationship between increased levels of planning and scheduling and both lower maintenance costs and higher machine availability(see Figure 1).Higher machine availability translates directly into increased production volume.
