CURRENT STATUS OF PAPAYA MEALYBUG Paracoccus marginatus AND ITS MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES IN TAMILNADU

Paracoccus marginatus is an alien insect of polyphagus in nature, can colonize in diversity of plant species like agri-horti-forestry ecosystem. The survey conducted during March to August 2012 and 2013 in various districts of Tamilnadu, reveals thatthe population abundance of P. marginatus is severe in endemic areas of Tamilnadu at maximum temperature. The management strategies are organic, chemical pesticide and biological control. The available strategies of natural biological controls are satisfied but inadequate, due to its exotic nature and chemical pesticides are hazardous to the environment. New findings are required to control the papaya mealybug P. marginatus for the adequate supply and safety environment.
