摘要

Non-edible vegetable oils particularly Karanj (Pongamia glabra), Castor oil (Ricinus communis), Neem (Azadirachita indica A. Juss) are having phytotoxins such as Karanjin, Ricin-Ricinine class toxic alkaloid and Azadirachtin respectively which are responsible for their insecticidal activity. Their agrochemical as well as medicinal importance is well proved.The oil based emulsions with 5 to 40 % oil and 2.4 to 17.3 % emulsifler blend were developed. HLB values of vegetable oil were determined by preparing series of emulsions with varying HLB number of emulsifier blend. Karanj, Castor and Neem oil were having HLB values of 8,14 and 13 respectively. Rheological characterization has shown pseudoplastic i.e. shear thinning nature of all emulsions. Oil content was the viscosity and spreadability controlling parameter. The individual as well as combination of emulsions were tested for larvicidal activity against three different species of mosquitos viz. Culex quinquefasciatus (Say), Aedes aegypti (L.) and Anopheles stephensi (L.) The formulated oil based emulsions were found to be stable over a period of 24 h at 30°C ± 0.5°C and most of the dilute emulsions (having 5% oil) have shown a promising mosquito larvicidal activity. The combination treatment was found to be promising for effective mosquito check, Musca domestica repellency and Anti maggot potential.
