Kuwait Petroleum Shortlists Shell & Dow For Refinery, Petrochem JV with Sinopec

Beijing- Kuwait Petroleum has submitted Shell and Dow Chemical's names to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) as possible partners in a joint venture refinery being built with Sinopec in China, Reuters reported. The Chinese government approved plans by Sinopec and Kuwait Petroleum in March to build a refinery and petrochemical project. The project, expected to cost $5-billion, will process 12-million t/y of crude and produce between 800,000 t/y and 1-million t/y of ethylene (PCN, 31 Mar 08, p 3).
