EC Launching In-Depth Investigation Into QMVs Proposal to Acquire MOL

Brussels-The European Commission (EC) last week said it has opened an in-depth investigation into OMVs proposed acquisition of Hungarian oil and gas company MOL (PCN, 11 Feb 08, p 2). "This takeover would affect several strategically important energy markets," noted Neelie Kroes, competition commissioner. "It is therefore crucial that the Commission makes sure that effective competition will be preserved for the benefit of both domestic and industrial customers," she added. The EC has until 22 July to make a final decision.
