Green Plains Boosts Ethanol Capacity With Acquisition of Nebraska Plants

Omaha-Green Plains Renewable Energy (GPRE) has signed definitive agreements to acquire two Nebraska ethanol plants, increasing its ethanol production capacity to 480-million gal/yr from its current capacity of 330-million gal/yr. GPRE will acquire a 100-million-gal/yr ethanol plant near Central City and a 50-million-gal/yr ethanol facility in Ord for $123.5-million from a group of lenders led by AgStar Financial. The sale, subject to standard conditions and regulatory approvals, is expected to close in June 2009, with the plants becoming fully operational within 60 days of closing.
