An experiment was conducted during the winter season of 1997-98 and 1998-99 to study efficiency of pendimethalin and trifluralin both applied pre-plant incorporation using different seed rates under conventional tillage. The experiment was conductedat the Agronomy Research Farm, CCS Aryan Agricultural University, Hisar during the first year in a field infested with susceptible population of Phalaris minor and at farmers field during second year in a field infested with resistant population of Phalaris minor. Significant reduction in dry weight of Phalaris minor was caused by the higher seed rate of 150 kg ha~(-1), which also increased effective tillers but did not affect earhead length. Application of pendimethalin and trifluralin brought about an average reduction of 35-40 per cent in the dry matter accumulation by Phalaris minor which consequently resulted in a higher number of shoots per running metre row length and longer earheads. Consequently, all these treatments also increased the grainyield of wheat to the level of weed free check during both years.
