Here we describe a series of ideas and experimentsthat make use of small Japanese coins. I have seen a demonstration of electrostatics onvideo [1] using yen at a recent ASE conference.When my daughter's friend was going to Japan ear-lier this year, it seemed too good an opportunity tomiss to buy a couple of thousand yen at a greatlyreduced rate compared with catalogue sellers [2].The yen duly arrived and have since provided mewith a wealth of experiments.
