An absolute electrometer for the physics laboratory

A low-cost, easy-to-use absolute electrometer is presented: two thin metallicplates and an electronic balance, usually available in a laboratory, are used.We report on the very good performance of the device that allows precisemeasurements of the force acting between two charged plates.
