Shortly after the New Year, Statoil submitted plans to the Norwegian government for what will be Norway's deepest offshore development and its first spar platform. The Aasta Hansteen spar will be moored north of the Arctic Circle and is due onstream in 2017. A new gas pipeline is also being built to the Ormen Lange terminal at Nyhamna. The terminal supplies one fifth of UK demand via the 1,200-km long Langeled pipeline and is currently hosting basin trials of a newly developed subsea compressor train - but it's unclear whether this solution will be adopted for Ormen Lange.
