Never in the history of the petroleum and petrochemical industry can the stars have aligned so well for independent storage terminal operators as they are right now. The integrated oil companies are selling out of midstream assets; formerly state-dominated energy sectors in developing nations are opening up and crying out for assistance from established operators; huge changes in product flows are placing a massive requirement on existing terminal capacity; the growth in the palette of fuel specifications means tankage is required for product segregation, blending and building bulk; renewable fuels mandates have generated additional product streams for biofuels and feedstocks; and the sudden emergence of the massive shale oil sector in North America is again sending business the way of independent operators.
