The effects of the economic downturn in 2009 were felt across the whole of Ireland, particularly in the retail sector. However, in Northern Ireland, the retail sector was boosted by the cross border activity from the Republic. This had some positive effects on the forecourt sector - reversing the trends seen in previous years.
