Over the past decade, persistent increases in energy demand coupled with strong development in the production of unconventional gas and LNG has set solid grounds for growth in the onshore pipeline sector, and the next five years will see the realisation of a considerable number of ambitious interregional projects, according to new research by Douglas-Westwood. Trang Nguyen, author of the World onshore pipelines market forecast 2013-2017 report, comments: 'Global expenditure is expected to reach $216bn over the next five years, increasing by 12% compared to the previous five-year period with 270,000 km of pipelines to be installed. Major investment will be in pipe construction services (47%) and line pipe (27%).
