Freemartinism in a holstein-sahiwal heifer

A 16-month old Holstein-Sahiwal heifer was suspected to be a freemartin because it was born co-twin to a male. Results of the rectal examination revealed underdeveloped reproductive organs. The animal was slaughtered and its reproductive organs wereexamined to confirm freemartinism. Gonads were not found in the area normally occupied by the ovaries. Except for the vulva which appeared to be normal, the reproductive tract was underdeveloped with small clitoris and very small non-patent uterine horns
