Twelve people were arrested last week following a five month investigation into the illegal sale of pesticides in New York City's Chinatown area, EPA and New York officials announced Sept. 19. Two of the defendants face federal criminal charges while the rest face state criminal charges."The pesticides were not registered by EPA and were missing required label warnings, so consumers had no way of knowing how dangerous the products were or how best to protect themselves from harmful exposure," EPA says. The pesticides are particularly dangerous, EPA and New York officials note, because many of them resemble food or medical products.
