The Myanmar national army arrested 102 foreigners and 20 Myanmar nationals for illegal logging near the Chinese border, the nation's defense ministry reported today. The ministry did not identify any nationalities of those arrested, but said troops seized 436 logging trucks, stimulant drugs, raw opium and Chinese currency during the three-day raid after an aerial survey of logging in Kachin state. According to government officials, the signature of a member of the ethnic Kachin Independence Army, which has clashed with the army in the border region for the past four years, was also found on a document condoning the logging.
