Federal jury awards $1 billion to Monsanto in patent infringement lawsuit

Monsanto has been awarded $1 billion in a patent infringement lawsuit against DuPont and its Pioneer Hi-Bred International division over DuPont's use of Monsanto's patented Roundup Ready technology. In an Aug. 1 verdict, a federal jury, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, found that DuPont Pioneer had willfully infringed Monsanto's patented RR technology. "The finding of willful infringement could lead to an increased award of damages in the case," Monsanto speculates in a news release issued Aug. 1.
