A resurgence in violence has forced a shutdown of Libya’s El Sharara oil field, one of the country’s largest. Gunmen entered the El Sharara field complex on 5 November, forcing a precautionary shutdown. The field was producing about 270,000 b/d at the time, or about one-third of Libya’s output. The field is operated by state-owned oil company NOC and Spanish energy group Repsol (WPA, 3 October, p4).
