IMF sees slower global economic growth

The global economy has continued to deteriorate, with the advanced economies growing too slowly to reduce unemploy- ment substantially, the IMF says in its latest World Economic Outlook (WEO). With the global economy exhibiting what IMF research department director Olivier Blanchard calls “a general feel- ing of uncertainty”, the IMF projects world GDP will grow by a modest 3.3pc this year, somewhat slower than the 3.5pc the IMF predicted just three months ago (WPA, 20 July, p9). Growth will accelerate slightly next year to 3.6pc, compared with the 3.9pc expected in July, the WEO says.
