The US has tightened fuel efficiency standards for new commercial trucks through a regulation that is projected to cut domestic diesel and gasoline consumption by more than 800,000 b/d by 2050. The standards will conserve 1.96bn bl of fuel over the life span of compliant vehicles, US environmental regulator the EPA says. The standards will cut CO2 emissions by 1.1bn t over the life span of the vehicles, bringing the US closer to meeting commitments it made in Paris last year to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 26-28pc below 2005 levels by 2025.
