Martyn Pugh reckons: "If VW made a Caddy GTI, this would be it." We'd argue what he's created is way better, especially with its epic build cost of ￡37,000! Caddy builds come in two very distinct treatments: you'll get those that bolt on wheels, do a bit of colour coding and maybe fit electric windows. Then you get a few crazy bastards like Martyn Pugh who spend a dizzying sum on creating something so special that most average Joes ask: why didn't you just buy an R8? I think we can confidently say Martyn's Caddy pretty much smashes the scale when it comes to ludicrous budgets on what is still, essentially, a workman's wheels. "I added up the receipts for just the parts alone from VW and they came to about ￡15,000. I daren't add up the seven months of labour and all the rest of the parts it's taken to create what you're looking at," laughs our crazy Welshman. Despite running Newport Autopaint - a painter of only the highest calibre of vehicles - Martyn has still blown an insane amount on going to extremes. "We only paint prestige cars so if we were going to do a Caddy properly, we knew it'd have to be flawless in every aspect. It's been treated like a ￡100,000 car by me and my boys."
