Producers not optimistic about crop prospects

At the time Pecan South requested crop reports from sources around the country for this edition, the best generalization seemed to be "this is not a large crop." For some states, crop development was not far enough along to make a reasonable assessment due to wet and cool spring weather. Beginning in the west, California grower Brian Blain reported, "California has had one of the latest, wettest and coldest springs in history. Soil temperatures have been so cold that some of the cotton varieties were unable to be planted this year at all. All the nut crops are late, especially pecans."
