Room with a few ... Sit down get a cuppa and relax. If you have a weak heart, get excited easily or suffer from jealousy, be warned, the next few pages might make you fall off your chair!
To our right is an ex-Formula 1 Benetton engine while an ex-display DOHC engine hides behind it in a Perspex case, including cutaway detail exposing the pistons and crank complete with red painted edges to emphasise the cuts. Just beyond the engines is an Imperial Blue Escort RS Cosworth, one of three in the building. Parked beside it is RS02 FMC, the first production Focus RS to be built. They reside under a huge, wall-mounted RS logo and illuminated Ford emblem, quietly awaiting some attention. They're bug splattered and dirty, fresh from a road test or photoshoot. Both cars have been used for filming with Top Gear in the past, so they're used to the abuse. Abuse, to an extent, is okay, because that's what these cars are for. They're here to be used, just like the other 80 or so cars in this unique, and astonishing collection. Each car earns its keep by being a publicity tool for Ford, who is keeping its history and image alive via a sea of immaculate machines from 1896 through to 2009. This, ladies and gents, is the Ford Heritage fleet, and for Ford lovers it is quite simply, automotive nirvana.
